Ishkhan Saghatelyan Not Elected NA Vice President

On August 5, the National Assembly continued the work of the first session of the NA eighth convocation. Let us remind that on the previous day the member of the Armenia Faction Ishkhan Saghatelyan was nominated as a candidate for the post of the RA NA Vice President by the opposition. The NA factions expressed their viewpoints on the occasion of his nomination.

The Head of the Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan underlined that in case of being elected in that post Ishkhan Saghatelyan would decently fulfill his duties according to the constitutional law the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly.

The Secretary of the Civil Contract Faction Nazeli Baghdasaryan informed that the ruling faction would take part in the voting of the election of the NA Vice President, providing the minimum number of the necessary votes in order not to disrupt the NA works.

In his final speech Ishkhan Sagahtelyan touched upon his colleagues’ speeches and gave clarifications.

After voting the Chairman of the NA Counting Commission Narek Babayan informed that voting was held by secret ballot. 104 NA deputies out of 107 took part in voting, 1 voting paper was recognized invalid. 53 deputies voted for Saghatelyan’s candidacy, and 50 – against. So, Ishkhan Saghatelyan was not elected NA Vice President.

The NA President Alen Simonyan clarified that, according to legislation, in this case the opposition should again nominate a candidate.
